hurricane_chrisAthrun Zala: Athrun is a trainer from Driftveil City in the Unova region. His father, Patrick Zala, was until very recently a politician -- and, as it turns out, a senior member of Team Plasma. As a result, Athrun was exposed mainly to Team Plasma's narrative, and for a while, he thought they made some good points, even though he didn't agree entirely with their call for all trainers to release their Pokémon. But, when he learned of Team Plasma's true goals, he turned against his father and helped a trainer from Nuvema Town interfere with their plans and ultimately dismantle the team. Athrun's father was captured and sentenced to prison for his crimes, and Athrun sold his estate to move to a completely new region entirely, determined to get away from his past and get a fresh start. His favorite type is Flying.
Xander: Xander hails from Lumiose City in the Kalos region. He is the eldest of four siblings, and a member of the aristocracy. However, his father, Lord Garon, had gotten involved with Team Flare and their plans. Upon learning the truth of this, Xander went and challenged his father to a Pokémon battle, but unfortunately lost. Team Flare would eventually fall to a group of kids from Vaniville Town, and Garon would follow in Lysandre's footsteps in meeting his ultimate fate, leaving Xander the head of the estate. Xander is now on a Pokémon journey of his own to grow as strong as he can become, so that the next time a threat arises, he will be prepared for it. His favorite type is Dark.
Shirou Emiya: Shirou hails from Verdanturf Town in the Hoenn region. Ten years ago, Shirou was the sole survivor of a fire that had broken out in Mauville City. He was rescued, and later adopted, by a trainer named Kiritsugu Emiya. Thanks to that experience, Shirou took up the ideals that his adoptive father possessed; namely, he wanted to become a hero of justice. In the world of Pokémon, the best way to do that was to become a strong trainer, so he's determined to take the Pokémon League challenge to become strong and prove his strength as a trainer. His favorite type is Steel.
Alm: Though Alm would say he's from Pallet Town in the Kanto region if he were asked, he was actually born Albein Alm Rudolf, the youngest in a family line tracing its way back to an ancient line of kings in another region (this is left variable so it can be tailored to whichever region). Per his father's request, Alm was smuggled away as an infant by Mycen, a longtime servant of the Albein family and a veteran trainer in his own right, to keep him safe from a foe determined to use the Albeins' lineage for nefarious ends. Mycen took him to Pallet Town, where he raised him as though Alm were Mycen's grandson. Now that he's older, Alm wants to become a trainer in his own right. His favorite type is Dragon.
