This is the largest, most elegant ballroom you have ever seen. Overhead, golden chandeliers flicker with warm lights, which are reflected on the large, window-shaped mirrors on the walls. A beautiful wooden dance floor sat in the center of the room, with ornately-decorated tables all around it. In the back is a pair of glass doors leading to a balcony that overlooks some gorgeous scenery.

I wouldn't know. It is rare for the Warmaster to send me to do something other than bring compliance by war. Sending the 10th company and myself here as an honor guard is... unusual.

Well, drinking and conversing I can do, at least. [ He already has a suitably large glass of wine in hand. ]

Agreed. I have not drank this sort of wine before, do you know the vintage? [ He holds up the glass, a fairly rich-looking red. ]

[tasting her own wine] Do you know, I'm not sure?

[frowning, considering] But if it is beyond the borders of the Empire, I would not recognize it.

Well, it stretches from the ocean-sea in the west to the Eastern Mountains, east of the Forever Plains, and across the continent from north to south. Though Her Majesty and her armies are still bringing some rebel lords under control.

You see, there was something of a problem with the succession during the reign of Emperor Tortaalik, but Her Majesty and Sethra Lavode have restored things to the way they ought to be. But certain Dragonlords pretend that they would be better suited to hold the Orb than Her Majesty, and they are being quite persistent in their ambitions.

Such is always the way with petty dynasts. Once compliance comes they'll all be brought to heel, and if Her majesty is a good steward there should be no problem joining the wider Imperium.
