It has to do with the whole Shadow thing I told you about before. It probably doesn't matter here but...
[ She still wants to shudder even thinking about it. If she had the lightning rat, she'd probably be instinctively trying to get out of the way every time it tried to do an attack.
Though at least Athrun doesn't have that much trouble with the Pikachu. ]
Yeah. We... should get better at this once we know more about how all of this works.
... Well, it definitely makes sense with the pokemon.
[ Yukari frowned, looking over at where the Pikachu was for a few moments. ]
That's a pretty good question. I mean, we already know that they can have more than one type, which makes it even more so than those that just have one type. There's around seventeen types, aren't there?
[Athrun has a superb memory, so it was not too difficult for him to memorize the names of every type. Of course, recalling all of their weaknesses, resistances, and immunities is a different matter.]
I just have to wonder, does each type have certain combat characteristics beyond just type advantages and disadvantages? Like, if you'll pardon the military reference, having mobile suits designed to establish air superiority as opposed to having mobile suits designed to support ground troops.
... Maybe, but I'm not sure if nature would be as clear cut as military stuff would be.
[ Also, seriously, pokemon had way too many types to remember. At least back when she was fighting shadows it was just Fire, Ice, Wind, Lightning, Light, and Dark.
Hopefully they wouldn't come across any dragons anytime soon though. That didn't sound like something that'd be easy to handle. ]
Well, yeah. But I... thought you were asking more if some pokemon just ended up the way they were to be able to fight something else.
[ ... Yeah, okay. That sounds stupid even to her now that she said it. Still, they were walking again, so hopefully they'd not need to talk more about it and they can just keep going to wherever they needed to go. ]
[Unfortunately, Viridian Forest is too large and winding -- and populated with Bug Catchers looking for a good battle -- to get through in one day. When night falls, Athrun insists on setting up camp. With plenty of wood around and Athrun having a Charmander -- which now knows Ember -- it was easy to make a campfire and cook the canned food they'd purchased in town.
And so now it's time to sleep. Though Athrun, at least, isn't tired enough to sleep yet. He lays in his sleeping bag idly.]
By the way...thanks. I appreciate the help you've been, especially today.
[Thanks to those Bug Catchers, Athrun realizes how much more difficult battling other Pokémon trainers is than battling wild Pokémon.]
[ Yukari not's exactly happy that they weren't able to make it out of the forest before nightfall, but it's not like they really had much choice. It was either this or continue on in the dark, and... continuing on was pretty dumb.
So yeah. Sleeping. Or eventually sleeping anyway. This whole situation was still weird. At least back in the Pokemon center it hadn't been out here in the middle of nowhere...
She was shaken from her thoughts though by Athrun's words, and she turned her head to look over at him. ]
Hey, don't mention it. I mean, we're both stuck in this place together, right?
That's true. Nevertheless, it took a leap of faith to join forces with a complete stranger. I wouldn't have blamed you if you had chosen to not trust me since you didn't know me.
[Athrun is just looking up at the sky. The trees here are thick, but at least they aren't thick enough to blot out the stars.]
[ Well, it's not like knowing someone and trusting them managed to keep her from being stabbed in the back before. But... he does raise a good point there. ]
I know. Honestly, I probably shouldn't be trusting you as much as I am right now. [ She pauses for a moment, before shrugging a bit in her sleeping bag. Part of it might be because Athrun sounded like, well, him, but that still wasn't a good reason. Like, at all. ]
Then again, I don't usually end up thrown into strange worlds where I know absolutely no one either. This is a weird situation all around.
Probably not, no. I mean, it's not like we're from the same place, and if it had happened before with people from where we're from, who'd really believe them if they mentioned it?
Possibly. But, on the other hand, it's also possible that they'd form their own community. It happens with people who immigrate to a country other than the one they grew up in, so it would make sense for the same to happen here.
I think the key to look for would be people who either know things that the natives of this world would have no way of knowing, or they won't know all of the things that the natives should.
Well, that can't hurt, at least. We'd have to really be on the look out when we're in towns though, but I guess it should be relatively easy to notice someone who... doesn't fit, I guess.

[That's the best guess he's got. At any rate, he lets the Pikachu out and begins tending to its wounds.]
That, and once our Pokémon get stronger. And we catch more of them.
no subject
[ So yeah, no shocking her Pikachu. Please. ]

[Athrun finishes treating his Pikachu's wounds, then calls it back into its Poké Ball.]
All right, let's get moving.
...You know, I wonder just how diverse these types make using them.

[What could adapt would survive, and what couldn't would perish. It was a universal truth of all species.]
So, if you're not comfortable with Electric-types, what would you be more comfortable with?
no subject
[ She didn't really need to think about the answer to his question for a moment. It was an obvious answer to her. ]
Flying types. Which... might mean that my last capture might not have been the best idea after all.

[ Which was... Electric. Well, there was also Ice and Rock, but she didn't know where she was going to get one of those anywhere near here. ]
Something neutral will probably work better though. I mean, assuming I'm trying to get it soon.
no subject
What do you say we focus on getting out of here? If we want more training, we can always come back once we reach Pewter City.
no subject
[ At least, as long as they were able to actually make it out of here before it got dark. ]

[Pause.]
Come to think of it, we wouldn't know that for certain, would we?

Though I certainly hope that isn't true.

Of course, I doubt anyone else like us would mention it here either, especially if they've been stuck here a while.
