Hopefully that's something else we'll find out. I'd assume it's based on what lizards eat, considering we both have reptiles.

...Though come to think of it, your Bulbasaur might get what it needs from sunlight. It's got that bulb on its back, after all.

[ ... That was a very good point. Yukari looks over at her Bulbasaur, wondering about it. ]

Well, that wouldn't be the strangest thing I've seen. But... somehow I don't think sunlight's going to be enough. It might get some from it, but it does have a mouth. If he didn't need to eat he wouldn't have that.

[Shrug.]

Maybe. Biology's never been my specialty. Add another question to the list, then.

[ Though that stuff was pretty basic bio stuff... then again, who knew how Pokémon actually worked?]

[Athrun isn't willing to go vegetarian, either. Meat is too important to a balanced diet for him.]

[ ... Yeah. Eww. Yukari's face is going just a little green at the thought now. Thanks a lot Athrun. ]

... Let's not think about that and just get over to that other town already.

[ ...It was still just as far away as it was before, Yukari. ]

[With that, things continue to proceed as they have been. Several hours later, they finally reach their destination -- Viridian City.]

[ This place really needed things like trains and cars. Having to spend hours getting to different towns was not fun at all.

But now that they were here she couldn't help but notice something. ]

This place doesn't really seem that different from that last town we were in. I was expecting something a bit more like a city back home...

Yeah, it's a small city.

[Athrun's just relaxing for the moment. He may not look it, but his feet hurt from all that walking.]

It's still larger than Pallet Town was, and at least they have places to stay. I mean, I wouldn't want to stay at a house with a woman who thinks she's my mother.

[ Yukari wouldn't want to stay with her mother period, but she doesn't say that part out loud. There were more important things to worry about.]

Yeah. I guess we should figure out what we're going to do about that... Somehow I don't think they're going to take yen here. [ Not that she had enough on her for a room anywhere in the first place. ]

Right. I'm not sure they'll take my currency, either, unfortunately.

[Most of Athrun's fortune was in bank accounts and investments, but he did carry a thick wad of cash in his wallet in the event of an emergency. Not that it does him any good if he's in a place where Orb currency isn't accepted and there's no place to exchange it for a currency that is.]

I'd say we'd probably have to find work, but that would conflict if we decide to keep traveling.

[ It'd do a bit more than just conflict. It'd be completely impossible to do both. ]

... Well, we definitely can't stay here. It's not like a way home is just going to magically show up in this town.

[ Not that it's going to be easy to find that anywhere but at least if they were moving they had a better chance of learning something. ]

At the same time, we need money. But maybe we can find out some more information on how to go from here. This place is larger than the previous town, after all.

Yeah. Might as well...

[ She sighs, looking around for a moment before she notices a pretty decent sized building. ]

... Well, if we want answers this "Pokémon Center" is probably as good a place as any to start.

[Athrun nods.]

I think I saw some brochures in the lobby when we first arrived. I'll go take a look.

[After saying that, Athrun stands up from where he was seated and heads out. A few minutes later, he returns.]

Well, a lot of it seemed pretty irrelevant, but these two looked useful.

[He tosses them onto his bed. One is for the Pokémon League challenge, and the other is for a Pokémon trainers' school.]

[ Pokémon League challenge? What the heck was that? It didn't really seem like something that was, well...

Okay. Screw it. Trainer school brochure it was. After looking it over for a few moments though, she frowned. ]

... Well, I don't think the trainer school thing is going to be a good idea. Looks like most of the students there are kids. If they even let us in for classes, we're going to look and feel like idiots.

Maybe...but I'm not sure that we necessarily need to sit for a class. All we need is some more basic information, right? We could probably glean that much just from talking to teachers or students.

And if we need more, we could pay one of the students to lend us a notebook or something along those lines.

[ She frowns, because she's really not sure how well that's going to actually, you know, work, but what could they really do right now? ]

Well, it's worth a shot, anyway. Maybe the teachers there will actually listen when we mention that we have no idea what's going on here.

They'd be pretty lousy teachers if they didn't. I'm sure the press would eat it up if they refused to help.

[Cue the wry smile. He's kidding.]

Yeah. I'm sure that's not going to be good for their reputation.

[ She's smiling a bit herself, though after a few moments she shakes her head. ]

So... what was that other brochure that you picked up for?

[Ah, so she can smile. Good.]

Ah, that. It's for the Pokémon League Challenge. It sounded relevant, so I grabbed it.

Looks like there's some kind of hierarchy among trainers here. Maybe if we can work our way to the top, we'll be able to get some answers.

... Huh. That makes some sense. But I wonder how it works...

[ Part of her wants to go take a look at the brochure, but she's not sure if there's going to be enough information there to make a lot of sense. ]

... Speaking of how that works, does everything here revolve around pokémon? I didn't really see any cars or anything.

[Athrun shrugs.]

It kind of seems that way, doesn't it? So far all the roads I've seen have been dirt. For now, we should either get used to walking a lot or find Pokémon large enough to ride.

[He seems to be pretty confident that such Pokémon exist. After all, if they didn't, then there'd be a pretty big need for cars.]

And on that note, perhaps getting some portable camping gear.
