[Athrun raises his eyebrows slightly. Did he just offend her pride?]

[And then two Rattata leap out of the brush directly at Yukari.]

Look out!

[ Yes Athrun. You totally did offend her pride a bit. Not that she was going to actually say anything like that if he asked.

She was going to say something to him, but those two Rattata jumping at her was a bit of a bigger distraction. She jumps back, getting out of range of whatever those two pokémon meant to do to her, and was already grabbing her pokéball. ]

Okay. This is really starting to get annoying! [ And with that, she released her Bulbasaur, because the last thing she needed was for rats of all things to bite her. ]

[Athrun lets his Charmander out, too. Again, the wild Pokémon are dispatched without much difficulty.]

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem like it's going to let up. If nothing else, it's good experience, though. Short-term loss, long-term gain.

[ Maybe it was, but that didn't mean that she had to like that it kept happening. ]

Maybe. But it would be better to wait until we knew more about what was going on.[ One of the Ratatta seems like it's going to try to attack her again, but she gives Bulbasaur the order to attack and it goes off and charges at it before it can make it's move.]

All the more reason we need to reach the city. If we can't find any more information there, I'm sure that somebody will be able to tell us where we can get information.

Yeah. It doesn't seem like these things are going to want to let us do that though...

[ The Rattata that her Bulbasaur had tackled came right back towards it and slams into her Bulbasaur, but it didn't seem like it did enough to make her Bulbasaur be hurt.

Pretty annoyed though, since it went right back towards charging at the rat, letting out something that seemed to be an angry cry.]

Good grief, it just doesn't want to go down, does it? Charmander, mind helping him out?

[With a yelp, Charmander runs after Bulbasaur to help it put the Rattata down.]

[ Yukari sighs, but it looks like the wild pokémon isn't going to be getting up anytime soon. ]

Well... it looks like its done for now...

Maybe we'll get lucky and won't get attacked again on the way there? [ She totally doesn't believe they're going to be that lucky, but she could always hope. ]

Let's not plan based on that assumption.

...But that being said, it would be nice. I want to get to the next city before dark.

[Back to walking. This time, it's Athrun who is picking up the pace.]

[ She doesn't argue about it, she's not stupid, after all. Yukari goes to follow after Athrun without complaint, though she doesn't recall her Bulbasaur to the ball just yet, the small creature happily trotting up alongside her. ]

Hopefully once we make it there, someone can tell us something we can do to avoid getting attacked...

[ This wasn't like back home where she needed to get stronger. Avoiding fights was more than okay with her. ]

Perhaps. Alternately, perhaps we could find a way to efficiently make our Pokémon stronger. Either way, there's bound to be something to find out.

[Which only solidifies his own walking speed.]

... Honestly, if doing that works the way that I think it might, if we want to do that we just need to keep letting them handle this.

[ Hey, if it worked for people and Personas in Tartarus, why shouldn't it work for pokémon? ]

I feel the same way. Experience is a valuable tool in life, regardless of which path you choose. Even in battle, as I've learned.

There is one other thing that concerns me, though. We each have one Pokémon, and they have different types. What happens when we start running into Pokémon with an advantage? I can't see my Charmander faring well against a Water-type, for instance.

... Or my Bulbasaur against a fire type. That's not going to work out well for us either.

[ She frowns, thinking about it for a few moments. Clearly there had to be something. Back home, Minato could use multiple personas to cover their weaknesses, but other than that they were pretty much out of luck. ]

Maybe we'll meet some other people who's pokémon can handle types that ours can't?

Perhaps. Or perhaps we'll learn of a way to get new Pokémon.

[He's expecting something like pet stores or breeders. not having to go out and catch your own from the wild.]

Maybe... But that seems like it'd get expensive pretty fast.

[And that brings up another consideration... ]

... I don't suppose that professor actually told you what these guys eat, did he?

[Athrun shakes his head.]

Hopefully that's something else we'll find out. I'd assume it's based on what lizards eat, considering we both have reptiles.

...Though come to think of it, your Bulbasaur might get what it needs from sunlight. It's got that bulb on its back, after all.

[ ... That was a very good point. Yukari looks over at her Bulbasaur, wondering about it. ]

Well, that wouldn't be the strangest thing I've seen. But... somehow I don't think sunlight's going to be enough. It might get some from it, but it does have a mouth. If he didn't need to eat he wouldn't have that.

[Shrug.]

Maybe. Biology's never been my specialty. Add another question to the list, then.

It's not really one of mine either, honestly.

[ Though that stuff was pretty basic bio stuff... then again, who knew how Pokémon actually worked?]

But I'm sure someone here should be able to answer it. They can't all be as obtuse about things, right?

[ Hopefully they'd be better at explaining their normal to them than she had been with explaining where she came from to Athrun. ]

... But while we're talking about normal, do you think there's normal animals here, or just the pokémon?

I hope so. It'd be odd to have Pokémon as both companions and food. ...To say the least.

[Athrun isn't willing to go vegetarian, either. Meat is too important to a balanced diet for him.]

[ ... Yeah. Eww. Yukari's face is going just a little green at the thought now. Thanks a lot Athrun. ]

... Let's not think about that and just get over to that other town already.

[ ...It was still just as far away as it was before, Yukari. ]
